The Parish of Chambersbury was created in 1980 when St Mary’s, Apsley End, St Benedict’s, Bennetts End and Holy Trinity, Leverstock Green, were united into one benefice. Today, the three churches are lively Christian communities, each with their own priest, churchwardens and church council. There is also a parochial church council dealing with matters that are of common concern to all three churches, but it also encourages, supports and seeks to enable the churches to fulfil their mission and ministry in each district.
The three churches collaborate as much as they can, sharing skills, talents and ministries across the parish. Recently a parish group has been preparing for the admission of baptised children to communion in each district church. During the year there are occasions when the parish worships together e.g. on Ash Wednesday at St Benedict’s. There are also other occasions when the people of the people of the parish come together e.g. the Easter Monday Pilgrimage to St Albans Abbey.
The parish website contains information about the life and work of each district church, as well as information of interest to the whole parish.
A formal process of consultation is about to begin whereby the Parish of Chambersbury will unite with the Parish of All Saints’, Kings Langley, to create an entirely new benefice. This is seen as a huge opportunity to develop a new parish, based on authentic collaborative ministry and drawing on some contemporary initiatives and fresh expressions of a mission-shaped parish fit for the 21st century.
